Railroad Stations Part Three
Next, we head back across the prairie into the
mountains of Kellogg, Idaho. Kellogg is a wonderful town on the former Northern
Pacific Railway line. Although, trains no longer run through the town, the city
remembers it’s past. The city has turned the former
right-of-way into a Rail to Trails project. The area chamber of commerce has
their office in one of the two stations located along the trail.
The Chamber Visitor’s Center is in the brick
station, while the bike station took over the older station. The shop’s owners
do a great job at keeping maintaining the station’s heritage.
Labadie, Missouri’s station has been rebuilt, and
serves a collection of businesses.
Moving north along US Highway 63, there is a town
called LaPlata. This town is on the BNSF Transcon. The station design is one that it catches people
off guard. It’s Art Deco style in the middle of Amish country.
