The Kansas City Southern Railway Co. (KCSR) is a Class I rail system which operates over 2,728 track miles in 11 central and southeastern states. Founded in 1887 with the vision of providing the most direct salt water access from the Midwest, KCSR today has the shortest route between Kansas City and the Gulf of Mexico, serving the ports of Port Arthur, Texas New Orleans and West Lake Charles, La. and Gulfport, Miss.

Local View - KCS on the BNSF
KCS locomotives are occasionaly seen thrown into the mix of road power heading in and out of BNSF's Hobson Yard in Lincoln, Nebraska. The units are used in both BNSF trains, leased by the power-hungry road for coal hauling, and on KCS's own through trains.

Also see Tex-Mex RR, which is now a part of the KCS System.

KCS 619 - On one or two occasions the KCS could be seen working on the UP in Lincoln. #619, an SD45, is seen here with UP 3245 as part of an over-powered 5 unit train picking up hoppers from OL&B on the old MoPac track. The rear of a KCS albino unit can also be seen. The image quality is poor, but SD45's are a rare sight these days. - T. Greuter Photo
