Below left is the east portal of the
Cascade Tunnel. Train speed inside was no more than 35 miles per
hour. Below right is CP East Scenic and the western portal is
visible around the curve to the right. BNSF is doing some
trackwork. An eastbound freight train was waiting for the Empire
Builder to clear.
Below, the freight has some very large loads, possibly aircraft parts
from Boeing. Note the flat cars with the semi-circular clearance
shapes.
Another stop was at Everett, Washington. A Sounder trainset was
stored there.
At Everett, the Empire Builder
finally met the Puget Sound and ran along it for almost 30 miles.
