PORT UNION / Rouge Hill GO Station
  • Port Union selected to be GO Transit's first commuter passenger station
  • to be the "model station" for the rest of the Lakeshore stations, 26 May 1966
  • to be named 'Port Union' however this changed by GO at CNs request around June 1966 as it would conflict with CNs regular passenger trains still operating along the Kingston Sub at this time
  • half-a-mile east of the CNR Port Union Station where my grandfather, RH McCalpin, was the first trick telegraph agent
  • early station modular aluminum and glass construction with pedestrian underpass costing $60,000 in 1966
  • pedestrian underpass "... first of its kind, prefabricated concrete 'time tunnel'..." constructed under two mainlines in 12 hours October 1966
  • 1977 pedestrian underpass & passenger canopies for north platform
