Route 15 Girard Avenue Philadelphia PA August 28 2016 |
Just in time for the first day of school, this year's Route 15 trolley rehab project on Girard Avenue is complete. Here at Broad Street, you can see where the old and new meet. Three sections were tackled this summer: from 58th to 60th Streets, Poplar Street west to 25th Street, and this section from 9th to Broad. The track, nearly two miles in total, was in need of some work as sections had not been touched since the cobblestone era of the 1940's. |
The new layout is concrete in the gauge and asphalt everywhere else. |
Presumably the Streets Department will be resurfacing the non-trolley portion of the roadway, eventually. |
Waiting for the day when the sign really means something again. Trolley service was scheduled to return to the line (at least as far as the Sugarhouse Loop) on September 4 2016. |
