SEPTA Norristown Line Norristown PA October 18 2015 |
October is disaster drill time, and SEPTA provided equipment for the most recent exercise, eventually. Two hours late for its own funeral, RL1A 61 had a little trouble on the run from Wayne Electric, shoving the consist up from 16th Street Junction as it passes Conshohocken. |
SEPTA provided a pair of Silverliner IV's and a pair of Silverliner V's for the two part operation. |
They used the siding just north of Conshohocken Station for the dril. Previously disaster drills featured simulations such as a car involved derailment with wires down at Miquon (they actually did provide a wrecked car) and a derailment involving a passenger train and a freight train with hazardous materials between Spring Mill and Conshohocken (flaming barrels on a flat car filling in for the freight train). |
In this one, a IV and a V were cut off to the north for use by tactical squads looking for a bomb ... |
while the engine and other two cars were treated as a derailment with injuries and a fire. Local emergency services were staged at Washies in Conshohocken until the simulated call was made. |
An overall view of the area (bomb squad near cars, fire and emergency crews far cars). |
