Railfan Pictures of the Week - 12/06/2015

North Philadelphia Station Amtrak Northeast Corridor Philadelphia PA November 29 2015

This is the first part of the Turkey Sunday series: Part Two is here, Part Three is here.

The Sunday after Thanksgiving is one of Amtrak's busiest days of the year, Amtrak's Northeast Corridor is one of the busiest lines in the country, and North Philadelphia Station is one of the busiest stations on the NEC, if not for boardings, but for the number of trains passing and the variety of equipment. So sit back and watch the trains fly by.

First up, it was unusual that CETC sent the Silver Meteor north on the local track from Zoo, passing North Philadelphia Tower ....

while the trailing SEPTA local 9709 came up to the station and would stop on Track 2, the track usually reserved for through trains. Track 1 is frequented by SEPTA and NJT trains.
The other tennant on this part of the NEC is NJT, with Train 4668 led by PL42-AC 4019 leaning in on its trip from Atlantic City.
Amtrak AEM-7AC 921 labors on what is probably its last Thanksgiving rush, pulling the ten cars of Train 152.
The replacements for the toasters, Amtrak AC-64 Cities Sprinters, have all but taken over the job, including the Keystone trains.
On the tail end of Keystone Train 663 is one of the "armored" cab cars, AMTK 9646.
To round out the variety, CSX, NS and Conrail have their own separate track to connect to Pavonia Yard in Camden, NJ. Here is a relatively short NS 39G heading west toward Allentown with two box cars and 20 tank cars.
