SEPTA Doylestown Line Lansdale PA April 12 2015 |
One of the continuing narratives of railroads is the quest to remain current, and considering the amount of physical plant they maintain, it is not a easy chore. SEPTA is upgrading its electrical substations that date back to the Reading Company-era, and spent a few weekends in April removing some obsolete equipment near Doylestown. |
Due to the inaccesibility of the site, SEPTA 52 brought up a flat car on which a crane lowered the ancient transformer, then the locomotive would shove the load to the station where another crane would transfer it to a waiting flat bed tractor trailer for its final journey to the scrap yard. |
After a long day of waiting for something to do, then finding that that something consisted of shoving a flat car a quarter mile once and then done, SEPTA 52 heads back to town. |
