SEPTA Norristown Line CP Kalb Norristown PA January 17 2015 |
And why has NS been detouring their Morrisville trains on weekends? Why, SEPTA track work. |
SEPTA is reworking Kalb interlocking to move most freights off Track 1 and over to Track 2. |
SEPTA is replacing and upgrading all the related track, signals, switches and wiring. |
One of the main reasons for the work is to prolong the life of the curved switches north of the station on Track 1. |
The freights currently use Track 1 from Kalb to Ford, and all the tonnage has been abusing the switches. After the work is done, the curved switch from the NS single track to Track 1 will be removed, and most freights will run Track 2 from Kalb to Ford, bypassing the curved switch from Track 1 to Track 2. The only exceptions will be light engine moves that NS wishes to turn via Norris to Bridge to Island to Norris and the CSX C746 runs that use the route of NS Morrisville Line to NS Connecting Track to SEPTA Norristown Line to CSX Stony Creek Branch and reverse on the return. |
