Amtrak Keystone Corridor Elizabethtown PA January 17 2015 |
While SEPTA is reworking CP Kalb in Norristown, NS has been detouring some of its Morrisville trains on the weekends. This morning NS 21E turned right at CP King and went west via NS's Dale Secondary (aka the PRR Trenton Cutoff) to CP Glen where it entered Amtrak's Keystone Corridor for the trip to Harrisburg. Here it is approaching Elizabethtown, to the left is a switchback freight siding used to service the M&M Mars plant where they produce Dove Chocolate. |
Amtrak has about a two hour window between trains on weekends, so there were no passengers at the station to see this unusual sight. |
As intermodals go, 21E is a hybrid: the front half of the train is mostly TOFC, or trailer on a flat car. |
The back half is mostly containers in well cars. Due to wire clearances, the detour trains are profiled for single stacks, while the trains running the normal route are double stacked. |
