SEPTA Route 15 Frankford Avenue and Canal Street Philadelphia PA December 13 2014 |
The city is doing some major road work on Canal and Laurel Streets near the Route 15 trolley loop, possibly related to the nearby Sugar House Casino and the development of the Ajax Metal Company building (on the left) as part of a multi-million dollar project called Canal Street North. When they were installing the rail on Frankford Avenue, they uncovered old trolley tracks from back in the 1950's. |
On the other side of the building on Canal Street, there are still railroad tracks and cobblestones dating back to the late 1800's, probably part of the Belt Line Railroad. |
The old street trackage will probably be removed when the neighborhood starts gentrifying ... |
which looks like it's right around the corner, both figuratively and literally. |
