SEPTA Norristown Line and NS Morrisville Connecting Track Norristown PA December 19 and 20 2013 |
SEPTA is in the process of upgrading track and signalling on the Norristown Line, and one of the main jobs is to rework the interlocking at CP Ford into a full interlocking to better handle the passenger and freight traffic there. Although the stretch where the two overlap is barely a mile, it can see small traffic jams, especially during rush hours. The usually nocturnal Q190 will take about 10 minutes to clear the line this morning. |
Waiting on the other side of CP King was its counterpart, Q191, now getting its turn, snaking through CP Ford under the nest of wires. |
A frequent early morning entry on the NS side is H84, the local job that runs from Abrams to Coatesville and back, here shoving through Norristown Station with caboose 21201. |
Chasing H84 this day was the light power of 90M heading over to the Dale Secondary to pick up a string of empty tie gondolas. |
The next morning it was 14G crossing over after working Abrams. |
Not long after, empty coal train 521 traced 14G's footsteps. It will be interesting to see how the improvements, slated to be completed in April, will facilitate movements in the area. |
