Railfan Pictures of the Week - 11/24/2013

SEPTA Norristown High Speed Line Norristown and Bridgeport PA November 11 2013

On the first day back in service across the Schuylkill, the Norristown High Speed Line ran a rather uneventful early morning rush under the watchful eyes of a number of SEPTA personnel.
By mid-morning, a problem became apparent at the entrance to the Norristown Transportation Center. After a number of loaded cars passed over the floating switch, the track began to settle more than anticipated, causing a loss of connection with the third rail.
By 11:00 it was determined to suspend rail service to Norristown while they worked on the switch area, and a small army of workers descended on the track.
In a bit of deja vu, the temporarily closed ADA-compliant station in Bridgeport was temporarily reopened and passengers were being bussed once again to and from Norristown.
Thankfully, by 15:00 that afternoon, the track had been mended and a test train was run over the section to verify that all was once again right with the world, or in this case, the third rail.
Service across the bridge resumed in time for the evening rush.
