SEPTA Norristown High Speed Line Norristown and Bridgeport PA November 11 2013 |
On the first day back in service across the Schuylkill, the Norristown High Speed Line ran a rather uneventful early morning rush under the watchful eyes of a number of SEPTA personnel. |
By mid-morning, a problem became apparent at the entrance to the Norristown Transportation Center. After a number of loaded cars passed over the floating switch, the track began to settle more than anticipated, causing a loss of connection with the third rail. |
By 11:00 it was determined to suspend rail service to Norristown while they worked on the switch area, and a small army of workers descended on the track. |
In a bit of deja vu, the temporarily closed ADA-compliant station in Bridgeport was temporarily reopened and passengers were being bussed once again to and from Norristown. |
Thankfully, by 15:00 that afternoon, the track had been mended and a test train was run over the section to verify that all was once again right with the world, or in this case, the third rail. |
Service across the bridge resumed in time for the evening rush. |
