Railfan Pictures of the Week - 10/20/2013

SEPTA Doylestown Line Schoolhouse Road New Britain PA October 12 2013

The past few weekends the Doylestown Line has been bustituted from Lansdale to Doylestown while the wire train worked between Schoolhouse Road and CP Land. The weekend of October 12-13 the wire train shifted its attention to some work at the Doylestown end, and while that was going on, the track department was doing their thing just north of Schoolhouse.
Shortly after the last train of Friday evening, a pair of Gradalls took to the rails and promptly removed a section and excavated a gap ...
large enough to drive a front-end loader through. There is apparently a drainage problem in this area and they were installing pipe to channel the water through rather than at the ballast.
After each load, they would tamp it down with their new toy: a remote-controlled compactor.
Joystick and batteries included.
