Conrail Morrisville Yard Morrisville PA April and May 1999 |
Thinking about the drab gray of winter? Then how about some gray ladies from the turn of the century. The Conrail split is a couple months away, and already things are looking different. Anticipating a surge in demand, NS was taking delivery of catfish before they could even get their whiskers, like NS C40-9W 9277 with "speed" lettering (as in "get it done as fast as possible, it don't matter what it looks like!") |
NS 9281 is another C40-9W that came undecorated. |
Of course Conrail had its stealth units too. The gray Ballast Express paint scheme only appeared on the orphan C32-8's, but it looked pretty good and an interesting change, even after they got their NS patches, like NS (PRR) 8547, the former CR 6616. |
Black and white and gray all over. |
