As any modeler will tell you, similar cars show their age at varying degrees, as these twenty year old examples illustrate. Conrail open hopper Class H1K CR 493006 with barely any rust. |

| CR 493092 is starting to pick up rust on some of the side sheets and the end panel. |
 |
| On CR 493104, all of the side braces and most side sheets show rust, as well as the end panel. |
 |
| The rust on CR 493046 is progressing nicely. |
 |
| Of course, sometimes the seemingly natural pattern is interrupted by unnatural events, such as what must have happened to the tops of the side braces on CR 493004. |
