SEPTA Norristown Line Main Street Station Norristown PA July 2 2012 |
When someone says "trucks on the rails", most people think intermodal. For anyone trying to get around Norristown on the afternoon of July 2 2012, the phrase took on a different meaning. |
The brakes apparently failed on this truck hauling municipal waste, and the safest thing for the driver to do when approaching the busy intersection of DeKalb Pike and Main Street was to turn toward the commuter parking lot at the station. |
Thankfully no one was injured and reportedly the driver was only shaken up. For the cars in the parking lot, many of which had to be removed to get access to the fuel spill, ... |
it was not such a good outcome. |
Emergency personnel were standing by as large wreckers were brought in to remove the truck. |
While no SEPTA equipment was stuck north of the station, service was terminated at Norristown Transportation Center with bus service to the remaining two stops. Train service through to Elm Street resumed late in the rushhour that evening, at which time a number of Main Street Station commuters had to go hunting for their cars, or what was left of their cars. |
