CSX Bethlehem Branch and SEPTA Doylestown Branch Lansdale and Hatfield PA March 2011 |
It's spring and CSX is still in Lansdale. The rumored takeover of the Lansdale Cluster by a combined operation of the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad and East Penn Railroad has not yet come to pass, although it has been reported that a pair of ex-Conrail C39-8's that are being refurbished in New Hope now sport the reporting marks of the joint venture, Pennsylvania Northeastern Railroad. Meanwhile, CSX holds down the fort for the remaining customers, such as "The Soap" in Lansdale, here serviced by GP40-2 4418 on March 8 2011. |
Also part of the cluster is Lansdale Warehouse on SEPTA's Doylestown Line, the last active customer on the branch (the only other customer, 84 Lumber in Chalfont, has not received a car in a few years). On March 15 2011, B738 worked the warehouse between SEPTA trains. |
Later up the Bethlehem Branch they also worked Hatfield Warehouse. Once separate entities, Lansdale Warehouse purchased the nearby Hatfield Warehouse in 2004, and B738 frequently services the Hatfield location while the Lansdale side is usually handled at night by C746. |
After Hatfield, B738 stopped in to pull a car out of Atlas Cold Storage. An infrequent customer, it runs hot and cold (pardon the pun), going months without a car, then getting as many as a half dozen or so in a few weeks. |
Covered hoppers are usually heading to Jet Plastica. The cars are filled with plastic beads that used to make disposable straws, utensils, cups and plates. March 25 2011 |
