SEPTA Lansdale Station Lansdale PA July 21 2010 |
As they approach their pending retirement, the Silverliner II's SEPTA inherited from the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Reading Company are showing their age and while necessary maintenance to keep them running is increasing, some require a bit more attention than others. An example is Silverliner II 212, an ex-Pennsylvania Railroad Class MP85BE1-TC electric multiple unit car produced in 1963 by the Budd Company of Philadelphia. It looks like its side was partially replaced as several patches can be seen extending from the side sill up. |
Although the seams are obvious in appearance, the patch panels on the side of the body are a little more in line with the original shell of the car ..... |
while it appears the roof panels needed a liberal application of goo to keep the passengers' heads dry. |
The "surgical scar" extends almost to the letterboard on the other side, a testament to both the durability of the original cars and the work maintenance forces have done to keep them on the rails. |
