CSX Trenton Line CP Nice Philadelphia PA March 2 2010 |
The doublestack clearance project is in full swing again. So far, the only section completed is the Rhawn Street bridge, and back in December 2008 there was a review of the then-current layout, but now the shovels are in the ground. CSX Q418 crawls through the work area on what is now the single track, as Track 2 has been removed and that area excavated. |
The purpose of the project is to lower the track under SEPTA's Main Line. |
The Blue Line connection to SEPTA (track that diverges to the left) has been cut, and service to Lansdale has been shifted to the Stony Creek Branch. Unfortunately the Stony Creek Branch has spent much of the month of March out of service, causing CSX to bring Lansdale bound cars up to Woodbourne Yard on Q300 and sending C746 down the SEPTA Main Line at night to Jenkintown, then up the Neshaminy Line to CP Wood to set off and pick up cars. |
A retaining wall is being erected along the section where a concrete tub will be constructed that will allow the water in this flood-prone area to be pumped out. |
The work area extends down to MP 3 west of Tastykake, where Q410 is shown passing. The drainage pipes for the water at CP Nice will run along the right of way down to the Schuylkill River. |
