First Revenue Run of the Atlantic City Express Service February 6 2009 |
|
The first train 7162 departed Atlantic City at 10:02 and arrived in Philadelphia a little over one hour later, seen here coming off the Delair Bridge. |
Due to a switch failure at Shore, CETC-6 turned the train on Track 1 rather than Track 5, and it continued up Track 1 to Holmes Interlocking where it was crossed over to Track 2. |
The return trip 7163 departed NYC at 14:30 and a little over one hour later it was speeding through Cornwells Heights with NJT P40 4800 doing all the work. |
Seems that they had a problem with ALP44 4405 which required it to be shutdown at Newark and dragged along for the ride. |
Just a week before on the press preview train, 4405 speeds through Croydon as intended. The problem with 4405 was evidently corrected when the train arrived in Atlantic City. |
Update: The operating procedure for the NYC originating trains was changed for the revenue runs. Upon arrival at Newark, the diesel engine is started and powers the trip west to insure it is functioning properly. If problems with the diesel are encountered at Newark, the protect diesel engine in Atlantic City would be dispatched to meet the train at Frankford Junction while the revenue train proceeds under electric power. |
