SEPTA Doylestown Branch and Lansdale Station Lansdale PA January 23 2009 |
|
Early on the morning of January 23 2009, SEPTA dispatchers advised passing trains of a minor derailment at Lansdale Warehouse siding between Lansdale and Fortuna Stations on the Doylestown Line. What they saw was not much of a derailment. According to video surveillance, the NS boxcar started to roll away after the first train of the morning passed by around 5:45. Fortunately it only got about 50 feet before encountering the derail protecting the branch from such an occurance. The derail did its job and the lead truck was on the ground right on top of it. Unfortunately there was a major accident on the Schuylkill Expressway and the equipment to right the boxcar was stuck in the resulting backup, delaying the rerailing until the afternoon. |
When a portable rerailer arrived on scene, the local job B738 was dispatched to assist. In order to get there, B738, coming off the industrial track, was going to follow a northbound MU, but first had to make a short trip on the SEPTA Main Line through Dale Interlocking. |
After reversing through Dale, B738 ran Track 1 through the station and waited at Land Interlocking, just north of the station, for a southbound MU to pass so that it would have a sufficient time window in which to do its work. |
Once the southbound passed, B738 got the signal north to the warehouse. |
There they coupled up to the boxcar and shoved it back onto the rails. |
Its job done, B738 headed back to Lansdale Yard to resume its normal daily chores. |
