Amtrak Northeast Corridor Frankford Junction Philadelphia PA November 24 2008 |
|
Amtrak continues to make improvements and changes to the NEC. At Frankford Junction just before Thanksgiving, track department forces were working on the approach to the Delair Bridge. |
The work also required that the CSAO track into and out of Frankford Junction and Pavonia be taken out of service, resulting in minor changes to CSX, NS and CR freight schedules. |
Using front end loaders, several track panels were replaced and new switches installed. |
Two of the casualties were the Shore Interlocking westbound signals for Track 1 and the NJT Delair Bridge approach track, as well as the last remnants of the Frankford Junction station platform. For a look at the Junction the way it was back in 1991, click here. |
Amtrak trains continued to operate at restricted speeds through the work area, here Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 184 passes with doubleheaded power, interestingly with motor 949 having a raised leading pantograph and motor 911 with a raised trailing pantograph. |
Meanwhile, the heavy MOW artillery sits down on Track 5 west of Shore Interlocking, waiting for its turn. |
