SEPTA/NS/CSX Stony Creek Branch June 11 2008 |
|
Spring weather brings problems to the railroads, and the lightly used Stony Creek Branch is especially susceptible to its share. On May 20 2008, CSX C746 had the rail spread underneath them between Germantown Pike and Township Line Road, causing damage to the plow of trailing unit CSX 2746 and putting the five cars behind it on the ground. Not long after getting the line back up and running, CSX C746 was coming back up the branch again on June 11 2008 when the rail spread again, this time between North Wales and Bean Roads. While the last car stayed on the rails, the five in front of it, including covered hopper cars loaded with plastic pellets for Jet Plastica, did not. |
At Lansdale Yard, the B745/B738 power was parked on the south end of Track 5 ... |
while down at the derailment site, the C746 power was getting ready to pull the non-derailed cars on the head end up to Lansdale. |
C746 rolls through West Point. Hard to believe that the foreground was once the right of way for the Lehigh Valley Transit trolley line. |
C746 only got as far as the signal at Dale as the line was blocked by downed trees. |
After a maintainer removed the offending foliage, they finally rolled into town. |
