NS Morrisville Connecting Track Conshohocken PA April 11 2008 |
|
New track is a rarity these days, so it is good to see a new customer using the rails. In the next few months Conshohocken Rail LLC will begin shipping construction and demolition debris by railcar out of its facility in Conshohocken PA. NS has put in track from a new switch off the NS Morrisville Connecting Track between CP Conte Luna and CP King. The new siding will be serviced by a local out of Abrams Yard, probably NS H3A. |
NS installed the switch and the section of track up to the one grade crossing on the new siding, at the entrance to the industrial park off of Conshohocken State Road, where access to the bike path is also available. The short spur to the left will be used to store the switcher that will work with the cars dropped off by NS. |
The catenary poles are from the former Pennsylvania Railroad Schuylkill Branch, now used as a bike path connecting Philadelphia and Valley Forge. |
The work from the grade crossing to the summit is being done by Wintrow Railroad Construction of Ohio. |
For a perspective of the grade, the tops of PRR catenary poles are pictured here. There will be one track into the building, which is out of the picture to the left, and 2-3 storage tracks for 10-15 cars. Thanks to Andy Byler, who provided additional information, and he should know as he did the track design work. |
