SEPTA/NS/CSX Stony Creek Branch Norristown PA September 13 2007 |
|
At approximately 05:30 on September 13 CSX C746 derailed as it entered the Stony Creek Branch in Norristown PA. The non-derailed cars of the stopped train were blocking Elm Street. |
The derailment occurred just north of the grade crossing and involved the trailing engine and the first freight car. |
The derailment was at the site of a switch which had been removed previously. The track for the old siding can still be seen to the right of the train. |
The front truck of the trailing engine SD40-2 CSX 8832 had completely derailed ... |
as well as the lead truck on box car EEC 2002, which plowed into the ballast. |
Forunately for SEPTA, the train had just barely cleared Elm Interlocking (signal can be seen on the left), allowing normal operation of R6 Norristown train service. |
By 8:30, the calls had been made and the equipment was beginning to arrive on site. |
