CSX Bethlehem Branch Lansdale PA August 16 2007 |
|
Lansdale is known for getting the "cream of the crop" when it comes to motive power (some believe Lansdale is the lowest point in the CSX system because of the flotsam that tends to wind up here), so it is a rare day when we get both the usual and the unusual, in this case in the same package. The visage of a beaten and abused GP40-2 like CSX 6341 is not uncommon, but the pedigree of 6341 is. It was the last Baltimore and Ohio Railroad four axle engine delivered to the Chessie System, and after its long working career has ended, it is destined for a leisurely retirement at the B&O Museum in Baltimore MD, where as B&O 4447 it will wear a decidedly better coat of paint. |
Just in case there was an misunderstanding, this notice is posted on both sides of the engine. |
Later in the day, 6341 accompanied 6158 as they worked "the Soap", aka Crystal Soap. |
