CSX Trenton Line CP Wood Langhorne PA July 16 2007 |
CSX had a Harsco Track Technologies rail grinder working in Wood Interlocking on July 16 2007. Although the dispatcher kept referring to it as "the switch grinder", this model, the newest grinder design from Harsco, is cabable of working on main lines, switches and crossings. |
This is a much smaller unit than the Loram railgrinder seen in previous years. |
The designation RGH10C indicates that this version has 20 grinding stones. The units are modular and can have either 8 or 10 stones per module with combinations of 8, 10, 16, 20, 24, 30 and 32 stone units available. Each module is also self contained, but does have a blind B end, which would appear to be a problem for bi-directional single module operation. |
Both A ends have fire extinguishers and water hoses installed to take care of the small trackside brush fires that usually accompany a rail grinder. |
After clearing the interlocking to allow the passage of Q706 and an eastbound SEPTA local, the rail grinder gets back to work. |
