40th Street Portal West Philadelphia PA |
Look out David Horwitz's back door, and you will see one of the busiest spots in the Philadelphia area: the subway-surface portal at 40th Street. Here are a number of shots taken by David around the general area over the years. In 1973, PCC's pile up as they come out of the tunnel. |
Only the brave wander out in weather like this, a snowstorm in 1979. |
In 1983, a swarm of work trucks descend on the area for a major conversion. |
Also in 1983, this time at ground level, the Kawasaki's try to recreate the PCC shot from 1973. |
The tracks appear to go in all directions, another shot from 1983. |
