SEPTA Warminster Line between Roslyn and Cresmont Stations Abington PA July 1 2006 |
Outbound SEPTA R2 Warminster Train 1134, which had apparently lost power between Roslyn and Cresmont Stations at signal 505, was struck head-on by inbound Train 1143 near Grovania Avenue and Clearview Avenue in Abington. Emergency services were immediately called and a number of injuries were reported, with several people taken to Abington Memorial Hospital less than a mile away, although none of the injuries are thought to be life threatening. The consist for 1134 was (south to north) single unit Silverliner IV 299, married pair Silverliner IV 370-371 and single unit Silverliner IV 407. The consist for 1143 was Silverliner III 224, Silverliner II 218 and married pair Silverliner IV 454-453. The view of the emergency personnel response, looking north on Grovania Avenue |

It appeared that the lead unit on the outbound train, Silverliner IV 407, had been the recipient of most of the force of the collision, here coupled to 371 as it sat just north of the signal. |

The rail had rolled beneath both 407 and 224, derailing at least one truck on 224 and both on 407. |
