SEPTA Elmwood Depot Southwest Philadelphia PA August 1993 |
More on prototype tours for next week's NMRA Independence Junction Convention Although the tours of Wayne Junction and Overbrook Shops were canceled, tours of the SEPTA dispatching center and Frazer shops, as well as a couple of trolley trips, are still on. However, there are no tours of SEPTA trolley depots this time around. Interesting note on the trolley trips: the "vintage" trolley is a 1980's Kawasaki LRV, which will be used on the subway portion of the journey, with a much newer 2004 PCC-II to be used for much of the surface portion. One of the prototype tours for the 1993 Valley Forge Express Convention was SEPTA's Elmwood Depot, which still had a mix of cars back then, although the PCC's were just being stored there, having been retired in the summer of 1992. |
They also had a few of the work cars in the depot. |

PCC 2097 would eventually wind up in Colorado Springs CO as part of the collection assembled by The Pike's Peak Historical Street Railway Foundation. |
And way in the back was air-electric car 2054. Painted silver and blue some dozen or so years earlier, the tin worm was starting to show through. This car now has a new home at the Electric City Trolley Museum, Scranton, PA. |
