SEPTA Main Line Glenside Station Glenside PA May 7 2006 |
It would seem that the busiest line for non-revenue activity on SEPTA in recent months would be the Lansdale-Doylestown Line. In addition to the brush cutting during the week and the Pennlyn crossover work at night, there is also the 800 pound gorilla: the cab signalling project from Wayne Junction north. Combined with the reworking of Jenkintown, Carmel and Dale interlockings, the crews might as well make themselves at home. With Jenkintown Interlocking shutdown for the past few weekends, SEPTA has been operating shuttle trains from Doylestown and Warminster to Glenside, where the passengers board buses for the quick trip to the south end of Jenkintown Station. Before getting to the beehive of activity that was Jenkintown, a few shots of the sleepy burg of Glenside. Here, looking north and going from left to right, a switch waits to be installed, the new signals are bagged until needed, as well as spools of cable for the signalling that will eventually reach Lansdale. |
One of the R5 Doylestown shuttles featured a Silverliner II pair, here led by Reading REB-13 9009 with former PRR 268 trailing as it passes Silverliner IV married pair 135-136, held in reserve as protect power at Glenside. |
A southbound R5 rolls under the new signal bridge for Carmel Interlocking, with a new signal mast for the R2 Warminster Line to the right (old=dark and rusty, new=shiny silver). |
Not to be outdone, one of the R2 Warminster trains had Silverliner III 227 leading REB-13 Silverliner II 9001, departing Glenside with an R5 Doylestown train right behind it. |
