Silverliner IV 295 is a former Reading single MU that has had its cowcatcher removed and replaced with the new Pennsylvania style pilot.
During the truck overhaul, the cowcatcher is cut off with a torch, leaving a visible scar.
The black horizontal bar holds cab signal pick-up sensors, one over each rail, and as its paint is about as clean as the relatively new pilot, one would assume it was installed at the same time. Also notice the lower bracing strut to the right that connects to the end of the new pilot to a center sill support behind the coupler.
Compare the new pilot on Silverliner IV 295 on the left to the older pilot on Silverliner IV 357, the power car of the married pair 356/357. Notice the lack of lower bracing strut on 357's pilot, which has its bracing at the top.
