Railfan Pictures of the Week - 12/11/2005
In this day of $2.00+ a gallon gasoline, it is efficient and expedient for railfans to turn a long trip into a number of small stops, many birds with one stone if you will. Here are a few of the better offerings on the journey to shoot the Liberty Limited as it made its way to the 2005 Army Navy Game in Philadelphia. First, a stop at NS Abrams Yard in Upper Merion PA. Yes, it is no longer railfan-friendly, in fact downright hostile, but NS has not taken possession of the roadway that parallels its rails near the yard office, so if due caution is exercised, pictures can be had. Here a local crew is drilling the yard with NS SW1001 2101, MP15DC 2353 and D9-40C 8846. |
A light engine move from Morrisville PA arrives with D9-44CW 9626 and its younger brother 9855 in the new Horsehead scheme, and makes a short pit stop at the yard office. |
Just minutes later, the grimy Dash-9's continue their journey west, passing the much cleaner zebra striped pups. |
Back on the road again, this time just a few miles from Eddystone Station on the NEC, a set of road power that is parked outside the Boeing Plant along Industrial Highway catches the eye. An interesting combination: the staid and monochrome NS D9-40CW 9504 .... |
and its rather gaudy BNSF cousin, DASH 9-44CW 5472. Who is not looking forward to the day the "Buy Norfolk Southern First" paint scheme overtakes the black and white????? |
Finally, while waiting for the main event at Eddystone, Amtrak throws the railfans a bone with a cold car containing what are hopefully, considering the size of the train, hot commodities. Amtrak P42 137 hauling ExpressTrak boxcar AMTK 74110 heads south toward Washington DC. |
