SEPTA Route 15 at the Philadelphia Zoo Girard Avenue Philadelphia PA September1 2005 |
SEPTA finally announced the official debut of the rebuilt PCC II's in regular service on the Route 15 Girard Avenue trolley run starting today, September 4 2005. To mark the occasion, on September 1 2005 two of the new cars took two groups of children from either end of the route for a trip to the zoo and a short ceremony celebrating the return of the streetcars after a 13 year hiatus. The first pullout from Callowhill Depot is reported to be at 12:22 AM with the first run, sure to be packed with trolley aficionados, commencing at 12:30 AM. |
The two trolleys parked in front of the zoo as an Amtrak Regional passes overhead. |
The bus, which replaced the trolley in 1992, will be ready to fill in, just in case. |
On hand were local news crews to get some footage for the evening broadcasts. |
