CSX Lansdale Yard May 27 2005 |
Requiem for a bumper post When Conrail reconfigured Lansdale Yard several years ago, they created three stub end storage tracks (Tracks 4, 5 and 6) slightly elevated from the rest of the yard, and at the end of each they installed a bumper post. The first one to perform its duty to the extreme was the one on Track 5, and although it was heavily damaged, its remnants remain and are now assisted by a piece of wood. |
A couple years ago the one on Track 4 was pushed completely out of position and replaced by a tie. |
And on Friday the one on Track 6 met its match in the form of tank car MBLX 28449. |
One axle derailed and the end platform was mangled in the incident. |
The car was rerailed in short order, but the bumper post and the car both need a bit of work. |
