CSX Trenton Line Olney, CP Nice, CP River and CP Belmont Philadelphia PA April 20 2005

On Wednesday April 20 2005 Q300 went into emergency when the 90th car derailed near Lawndale Station on the Trenton Line. After things were sorted out, Q300 took all the good cars at the head end north and Q418, which was behind Q300 at CP Nice, cut off its power and went to pick up the cars at the rear, including the derailed car that was rerailed. With a 5 MPH speed restriction, Q418 pulled the cars down to Belmont siding where they cut off the last two and then shoved the rest against the rear of Q418's train which was parked at CP Laurel Hill. The power then ran around the train so it could continue north.

The most interesting part of the story was the power on Q418: a pair of Canadian National engines. They had come down the night before on Q417. CN 2616, a Dash 9-44CWL (CN Class EF-644d), leans into the curve at Olney. Trailing is CN 5724, an SD50F (CN Class GF-636a).
Now at CP Nice with trash and US Navy cars, the last of which had derailed.
Q418 crosses over at CP River to the siding at Belmont.
After cutting off the last two cars, Q418 pulls down the Harrisburg Line to clear the siding.
At the same time Q172 with SD70ACe 4843 leading approaches Belmont......
... and passes Q418 as it begins it shove toward CP Laurel Hill.
