Amtrak Northeast Corridor April 2004 |
As the new year dawns, one thing we will miss as the homogenization of the long distance trains continues is the variety they used to offer on the NEC. They were a welcome diversion from the ubiquitous AEM-7's, the nearly identical Acela Expresses, the endless stream of pedestrian Silverliners and the plethora of Amfleet cars. |
Amtrak 41 The Three Rivers Eddington Station April 05 2004 The Three Rivers was notable as the only long distance train on the corridor that used Horizon equipment, usually a couple coaches with a dinette. Throw in an Amfleet coach, a Viewliner sleeper and a couple of Heritage baggage cars and you had yourself a train. The baggage cars are at the rear now, but will be at the front when the train reverses at Philadelphia before heading west to Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and its final destination, Chicago. |
Amtrak 91 The Silver Star Eddington Station April 05 2004 The Star always has its baggage cars at the front all the way to Florida, along with a sleeper dorm, a couple of Viewliner sleepers, a Heritage diner followed by a string of Amfleets. |
Amtrak 20 The Crescent Eddington Station April 05 2004 The Crescent was easily identifiable by the presence of MHC cars until the end of their use on the corridor. This day's train only had one Viewliner, probably due to equipment being bad ordered. |
Amtrak 90 The Silver Star April 30 2004 During the CSX trackwork blitz in the spring, the Silver Star combined with the Silver Meteor to create a "SuperStar" with both trains' consists running together, resulting in some of the largest passenger trains seen on the NEC in years. |
Amtrak 20 The Crescent Cornwells Heights April 30 2004 This Crescent has the old Vermonter baggage car as well as a deadhead Viewliner. |
