Railfan Pictures of the Week - 10/24/2004
CSX Trenton and NS Morrisville Lines October 19 2004 |
A not-so-typical day in the life, as it were. Actually, these photos are proof that trains DO run when it is not photographically advantageous for us railfans, but hey, why not shoot them anyway. Heading into work, early morning overcast skies greet Q410 as it passes CP Berry with CSX 8740 in Dark Future leading a UP Flags units north. Definitely a day for video. |
Out for an early lunch, X439 with CSX Bright Future 8733 pulling a couple of lease units and a front half of a train full of trash as it approaches Woodbourne. |
A two train lunch is a good one, especially since Q438 had a pair of brand new SD70M's, 4808 and 4805. Just after Q438 passed the SEPTA wire train headed north as well. |
Heading home, heard SEPTA tell a flagman at Newtown that two northbounds were coming. First was Q418 led by CSX 753 paired up with a CSX GE widecab here at CP Berry. |
On Q418's tail was Q300 with CSX 619 going it alone. |
While waiting for Q418 and Q300, heard SEPTA tell Q190 they would be waiting for a northbound. Now SEPTA talks to Q190 at two places, CP Kalb in Norristown and CP Wood in Langhorne. You can tell which control point they are at by the frequency: 161.460 for trains at Kalb and 160.980 for trains at Wood. This time it was Kalb, so a quick ride up the turnpike to Willow Grove to catch CSX 7314 as it pulls Q190 at MP19 on the Morrisville Line. To the right you can see some of Conrail's handywork, the remnants of PRR catenary poles (probably cut down to make it even more difficult for SEPTA to ever get the proposed Cross County Metro off the ground - like it really needed help killing that project). |
