East Penn Railways Bethlehem Branch Perkasie and Quakertown PA |
Using East Penn Railway's B23-7 3153 (the former CSX 3153 and Conrail 1933 aka the Geometry Train Engine) and 3 borrowed New Hope and Ivyland Railroad (former Long Island Railroad) coaches with a boxcar carrying a generator for HEP squeezed in the middle, East Penn and Perkasie Borough's Quasquicentennial (125th Anniversary) Committee ran excursion trips between Perkasie's Olde Towne Day and Quakertown's Arts Alive! on Saturday May 15 2004. |
East Penn ran a high rail Suburban before each trip, to "plow the road" so to speak, pictured here approaching Paletown Road grade crossing. |
Just behind the high rail appetizer was the main course. |
Leading the southbound moves was 3153, obviously still in Conrail Quality paint except for an East Penn Railways logo on the cab. |
Behind 3153 was the NECR boxcar that was borrowed out of the many cars in storage on the line to carry the generator that provided power for the coaches' air conditioning. |
The dull gray of the LIRR era has been replaced by tuscan and gold of the NH&IRR, pictured here bringing up the rear just after the train has exited the south end of the Perkasie Tunnel. |
