What a difference a day makes! Due to track work on CSX in the south, Amtrak is combining the Silver Star and the Silver Meteor into one train (running under the Star's name and number) for the next couple months. Friday's Train 91 was the last southbound to run using its conventional consist, and Saturday's Train 1191 (in the spirit of the infamous "City of Everywhere", I call it the "Silver Everything") was the first with the new much larger consist. Unfortunately, the inaugural run of the new train must have suffered mechanical difficulties enroute from New York to Washington, as two more AEM-7's were added to the head end at Philadelphia, and although it was running approximately 15 minutes late when captured here north of Philadelphia, the train was running over four hours late into Washington DC. |
