SEPTA Gel Train Lansdale PA October 26 2003

Tis the dreaded slippery rail season, thanks to our deciduous
tree friends, and SEPTA has decided it is indeed war. They have unleashed
their previously nocturnal Gel Trains on daring daylight runs deep into
enemy territory, hoping to catch the unsuspecting leaves off guard. The
Amtrak Harrisburg line has a former F7 numbered SEPTA 622 on its train
operating out of Overbrook, while the Reading side train out of Roberts
Yard has a former LIRR FA Power Pack, now numbered SEPTA 615, dispensing
the white goo onto the rails. Providing the power for the run is RL1 60.
The extra followed R5 train 2526 up to Lansdale, laying over 10 minutes
before following 2523 back into town. SEPTA has a page about slippery
rails on their website here
and the Philadelphia Inquirer has an
article about the problem.
