Penn's Landing Philadelphia PA June 1995 |
Prior to last year's Legislator's Express run, the last movements on the tracks on Delaware Avenue north of Washington Avenue were the Penn's Landing Trolleys operated by the Buckingham Valley Trolley Association. Red Arrow car 80 is pictured under the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and car 76 in front of its home in the Municipal Pier. Trolleys in tourist areas have become hot items, adding to the ambience that many regional promoters want to cultivate in places like San Francisco, New Orleans, and other cities, and some of them have done it by buying trolleys from SEPTA. Unfortunately, the powers that be in Philadelphia do not seem to share that vision, and these cars had to find a new home with the Electric City Trolley Museum Association at the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton PA. Other good sources of information are Philadelphia Trolley Tracks , San Francisco Municipal Railway and North American Vintage Trolley Systems . |
