SEPTA Main Line North Wales and Lansdale PA August 17 2010 |
SEPTA Silverliner IV's, often referred to as "Cadillacs", are the middle child of the Silverliner family. With the recent arrival of the new Silverliner V's and the pending retirement of the Silverliner II's and III's, the IV's may not be getting a lot of attention, and it seems they know it as yesterday several of them decided to fix that. First Train 525 out of Lansdale ran two married pairs with only one pantograph pulling power from the catenary ... |
with the trailing married pair's pantograph down due to an unspecified fault. |
Later Train 562 limped into Lansdale with a possible transformer problem as the crew reported that only the lead unit 417 seemed to be pulling. |
Another problem struck the married pair on the next train # 564. Fortunately it happened on the way out of Center City so the operations center had the conductor detrain all local travel at Wayne Junction and then had 564 run "express" to Lansdale. On the turn as Train 5253 it was remarked that the ride into town should not be much of a problem as "it is all downhill". |
Picking up Train 564's local travel was Train 6566, whose cars were actually functioning normally. Later that night Train 583 evidently caused a bit a of log jam around Wayne Junction as its pantographs all dropped unexpectedly and were reluctant to cooperate. All in all, not a good day for the IV's. |
