SEPTA Lansdale Station Lansdale PA July 21 2010 |
SEPTA Silverliner II 266, well known as the camera train car, is sporting some new hardware on its roof. The array of low profile antennas is being used to test the wi-fi uplink that will work with the communication system of the new Silverliner V cars. Each time a train passes an access point (near the major yards or in center city), SEPTA will be able to upload up-to-date information and schedules (and presumably advertising) that will be shown on the display screens in each car, as well as download car status and defect information that will be sent to those monitoring the health of the new arrivals at the Regional Railroad Operations Center (aka RROC, or the Rock). |
