Railfan Pictures of the Day - 5/12/2010
Amtrak 30th Street Station Philadelphia PA May 8 2010 |
Amtrak celebrated National Train Day at a number of stations across the country, Philadelphia's 30th Street Station being one of them, as advertised on the billboard behind the station (ironically you could have been threatened with arrest by Amtrak police for taking this picture just a few years ago) ... |
and if the crowds and the long lines inside were any indication of success, then it was. |
By far the most popular attraction was the train equipment display on Tracks 1 and 2. In the afternoon the wait was over an hour to see a collection of private varnish and current Amtrak passenger and work equipment. |
If one hour was too much, you could wait 10-15 minutes for popcorn, getting your picture taken and photoshopped onto a whimsical trainscape, or just get in line for your freebies at the information booth. |
The hall adjacent to the main station concourse featured a stage with entertainment as well as exhibits like "Baseball Junction: The History of Baseball and the American Railroad", "Amtrak: Dining the Rail Way", "Trains Move Our Economy" and the "Go-Green Express". |
Of course what is a 'Go-Green Express" without an engineer .... presenting the Go-Green mascot "ARTE the Environmental Enginneer". ARTE stands for "Amtrak Recognizes The Environment". |
