East Penn Railway Perkiomen Branch October 11 2009 |
The Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce sponsored passenger trains out of Pennsburg up the former Reading Company Perkiomen Branch the second weekend of October. The first trip of the day traveled to Emmaus and back while later trips turned at Dillinger Tunnel. The surprise of the weekend was the returning trip from Emmaus on Sunday. East Penn Railways, the operator of the line, had some hot freight cars for Brown Printing in East Greenville waiting up at Emmaus, so they coupled them up to the hind end of the passenger extra and made it a mixed train back south. |
Although the sun was shining this weekend, a cold snap had dropped in during the week, and last weekend's sea of soy had turned somewhat sallow. |
ESPN 7554 was cut away at Brown to work while the passenger train continued down to Pennsburg. |
A bit later ESPN 7554 followed south, shoving several cars onto the siding in Pennsburg before cutting off light and rejoining the passenger train to lead it on the next trip north. |
Meanwhile, Pennsburg Station was a beehive of activity with much attention paid to the stars of the show. Unfortunately, due to increasing costs, these trips may not be repeated for some time. |
