SEPTA Main Line Church Street Ambler PA March 26 2009 |
Just after 15:00 Upper Dublin Police responded to a call about a fire near Church Street in Ambler. A PECO power line had fallen on the SEPTA wires at the grade crossing causing local power outages and forcing SEPTA to suspend service between Gwynedd Valley and Jenkintown (later Glenside when partial power was restored). The usual phalanx of SEPTA personnel and equipment descended on the area while PECO sent an army of one. The crossing was the site of a more spectacular wire problem almost three years ago. |
The PECO wire dangled over the SEPTA trolley wire ... |
and knocked down a section of the signal wire. |
For hours the smoke and flames lingered around the pole. |
After the PECO wire had been removed from the SEPTA wires, the C&S gang got to work and service resumed with train 551 departing Amber at 17:30 and Train 553 pictured here 10 minutes behind, followed shortly by Train 4253. The first northbound made it through some time after 18:00. All trains had to get Form D's for protection of the crossing but were instructed not to stop because of the possibility of more falling wires and the presence of supervision on the ground providing protection. |
