Railfan Pictures of the Day - 10/15/2008

SEPTA Main Line Lansdale PA September 20 and October 4 and 11 2008

Three of the past four weekends have seen CSX run a C946 train, the weekend equivalent of the nocturnal C746 that runs Sunday-Thursday nights between Lansdale and Philadelphia.

September 20 2008 they ran both ways, coming back at 18:00 with a box car and a string of LPG tank cars headed for interchange with ESPN where they will be stored.
The train had to come in on Station Track 1 because only five loaded hazardous material cars are allowed on any train using excepted track, which is how CSX's Bethlehem Running and Industrial Tracks are classified. Station Track 1 is part of SEPTA's trackage at the station, but has a switch leading to the yard.
Two weeks later on October 4, when C746 failed to return from Philadelphia on Friday, CSX ran C946 up the SEPTA Main Line, bringing up CSX 6225 along with the two SD40-2's, arriving at Lansdale about 15:00.
Included among the cars were six NS and CR gondolas that contained the parts of five spine cars and their trucks, destined for repair and reassembly by DIMEC in Quakertown.
October 11 finds C946 departing Lansdale at 10:30, taking just the four axles into town for refueling, returning on Monday morning with the usual mix of C746 cars.
