SEPTA Headquarters 1234 Market Street Philadelphia PA March 4 2007 |
SEPTA commemorated the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Market Street Elevated with a celebration at their headquarters. Of course, what is a birthday without a cake? |
On the lower level, among the PCC and front clip of a bus, refreshments were served. |
Disc jockey Jerry Blavat was the emcee, leading well-wishers including Curious George in dancing and his favorite music from the times he rode the trolley to 46th and Market Street, the original home of a little show called American Bandstand. |
SEPTA General Manager Faye Moore welcomed the crowd, and a number of people (some representing more important people who could not attend like Mayor John Street and Governor Edward Rendell) also addressed those gathered for the party. |
On the upper level was a display, put together with the help of chapter members Larry Eastwood and Harry Garforth, featuring photographs of the El over the past 100 years. |
Also on exhibit were hand-made models of some of the cars that ran on the line. |
